Fill a Hard Role
For the roles your system can't fill on its own.
A good hiring system fills most roles without a recruiter. Some roles are genuinely hard: a manager in a tight market, a senior leader, a licensed specialist. For those, we run the search for you, through your own system, for a flat fee.
Flat fees
Priced by the role, never by percentage.
Tiers are set by base salary, not job title. Build and Hiring Partner clients save $1,000 on every search.
| Role | Fee | Build and Partner clients |
|---|---|---|
| ManagerBase salary $75K to $130K | $9,000 | $8,000 |
| Senior LeaderBase salary $130K to $250K | $15,000 | $14,000 |
| Specialized or stalled roleBase salary under $75K | $5,000 | $4,000 |
For comparison, a typical agency fee on a $100,000 manager is $20,000 to $25,000.
What counts as hard
A role qualifies if any one of these is true.
Base salary of $75,000 or more.
The role needs a license, certification, or specialized skill that's hard to find.
The role has been open 45 days or more in your system with no strong finalist.
The terms
Simple, and written down.
- Payment
- One third at kickoff, which is non-refundable. Two thirds when your candidate accepts the offer.
- Guarantee
- If the person leaves or doesn't work out within 90 days, we find a replacement at no charge.
- 45-day backstop
- If a role in a BuiltRight system goes 45 days without a strong finalist, we can take over the search at the standard fee. The $1,000 client discount doesn't apply here, because pay, market, and location can stall a role even when the process is working.
- Availability
- We run one search at a time so every client gets full attention. Ask about current availability.
How a search runs
Through your system, so you keep everything.
- STEP 1KickoffWe agree on the scorecard, pay range, and who decides.
- STEP 2SearchWe find and contact candidates who fit, not just who applied.
- STEP 3ShortlistYou meet a short list of screened finalists.
- STEP 4DecideWe run the debrief and help close the offer.
Questions
Questions about searches.
Why not just charge a percentage like everyone else?
Because a percentage rewards a higher salary, not a better hire. A flat fee means our only incentive is finding the right person.
Why part of the fee up front?
A search takes 30 to 60 hours of real work. Pure contingency means the recruiter spreads that time across many clients and works whichever search is easiest to close. One third up front means your search gets full attention from day one.
Are the tiers based on job title?
No, on base salary. Small companies often give big titles, so salary is the fairer measure of how hard a search will be.
Do you fill entry-level roles?
No. A working hiring system should fill those without outside help. If it isn't, that's a problem with the system, and we'd rather fix that.
What about executive and C-suite searches?
We don't take roles above $250K base or C-suite searches at this time.
Do I need to be a Build client first?
No. If you aren't, we set up a simple scorecard and interview plan for the role as part of the search, so you still make the decision with a real process.
Have a role that won't fill?
Tell us about it on a free 20-minute call. If your system can fill it, we'll tell you how. If it can't, we'll tell you what a search would take.
